Fortinet FortiGate — firewall sourcing

The spotlight page for FortiGate: branch, campus and data centre firewall appliances, quoted by named model or by the traffic they must inspect.

Two ways to brief a FortiGate order

Model-first: the design names the FortiGate model — send it, with quantity and whether units run as HA pairs. Requirement-first: the design names the circuit, the users and the inspection profile — send those, and the quotation names the model class it priced, so the sizing is auditable.

Bundle and subscription names in a specification should be copied verbatim into the inquiry; they are configuration details, not fine print.

FortiGate inquiry checklist

  • Model, or circuit size + users + inspection profile
  • HA pair or single unit per site
  • VPN roles the design assigns to the appliance
  • Bundle or subscription names as specified

Sizing a FortiGate from the inspection profile

FortiGate inquiries price well when they describe the job, not the datasheet: user count behind the box, circuit speed, and the inspection the design actually runs. Throughput figures collapse several-fold between a headline number and full inspection, so the class that is right for the office is the one sized on the profile the security policy fixes.

Growth belongs in the same paragraph. If the circuit or the headcount will grow inside the appliance's service life, say how much; the quotation sizes for the stated horizon instead of forcing an early replacement cycle.

Bundles and terms are part of the line

A FortiGate line is hardware plus the subscription bundle the design runs, bought for a term. Name both on the inquiry — bundle expectations and term length — and the quotation prices them as visible lines. Where the design has not chosen, the quotation names the bundle and term it assumed, so the assumption is reviewable before it is bought.

Fleet orders benefit from aligned terms: subscriptions that expire together renew together. If the order extends an installed fleet, say when the existing terms run to, and new lines can be aligned to the same horizon on request.

High availability and the wider fabric

An HA posture changes an order's arithmetic completely: two appliances instead of one, subscriptions carried on the pair, and per-site spares reconsidered. State the posture per site — single, paired, or clustered across sites — and the quotation counts honestly for the posture named.

Fortinet orders often extend past the firewall: switching and wireless join the same security fabric and the same quotation. Sent together, the fabric junctions — port counts, AP licensing under the gate's control — are checked while the order is still paper.

Common questions

Can the desk size a FortiGate for me?

Yes — requirement-first briefs are priced with the model class named on the quotation.

Are firewalls consolidated with switch orders?

Yes — site orders combine routinely.

What does a FortiGate inquiry need?

User count, circuit speed, the inspection profile the policy runs, HA posture per site, and bundle and term expectations.

Can subscription terms be aligned with an existing fleet?

State the existing horizon on the inquiry and new lines are quoted to align with it where the bundle allows.

Can several sites be quoted in one inquiry?

Yes — send a per-site table: user count, circuit speed, inspection profile and HA posture per site. Sites sharing a pattern are priced as a pattern with quantities multiplied out; sites that differ are broken out as their own line groups, so the fleet price and its exceptions stay visible in the same document.
