Ubiquiti UniFi access points — sourcing in depth

UniFi is the wireless line buyers name most on this desk. This page covers AP sourcing by site — models, counts and the switching that powers them.

Site kits, not single APs

UniFi orders arrive as site kits: a model mix per property — indoor APs for rooms and corridors, outdoor units for grounds, and the PoE switches and gateway for the same site. Send the kit list per site and the desk consolidates each property into its own shipment or one combined order, as you specify.

The U7 family leads current demand; Wi-Fi 6 UniFi lines remain quotable for estates standardised on them. Name the generation your design assumes.

UniFi inquiry checklist

  • AP models and counts per site
  • Indoor/outdoor split and mounting notes
  • Switches and gateway in the same order, or APs only
  • One combined shipment or per-site shipments

Pricing a UniFi wireless design, not a box count

A UniFi access point order is a network design in disguise: the APs are the visible tip of a system that also needs switching with enough PoE budget, a gateway or controller context, and mounting that suits the ceiling. Send the design's shape — areas, AP counts per area, the switching layer behind them — and the quotation checks the layers against each other.

Generation choices belong in the brief. An estate extending a Wi-Fi 6 deployment prices differently from a greenfield Wi-Fi 7 design, and both are legitimate answers to different briefs. State which generation each area is standardised on, and mixed estates are quoted as mixed, clearly separated.

Where UniFi quotes go wrong without detail

The two recurring gaps are power and mounting. High-end APs draw more than old switch budgets assume, and enterprise ceilings need the mounting kits the design names. Both gaps are cheap on a quotation and expensive on a ladder, so the desk asks for the switch models and the mounting plan as part of the inquiry — and flags either one if it is missing.

Outdoor positions deserve their own lines. An outdoor AP is a different product in a different environment, and a blanket indoor count hides it. Mark outdoor positions separately, with mounting heights where the design fixes them.

The management context changes the answer

UniFi hardware runs inside a managed estate, and what manages it — an existing controller environment, a cloud-managed setup, a gateway with the controller built in — affects which lines belong on the order. Name the management context on the inquiry; where a new estate has none yet, the gateway and controller lines join the quotation as their own items rather than being discovered at adoption time.

For multi-site estates the context doubles as a template: the first site's bill becomes the pattern, and later sites are checked against it line by line so adoption settings, model choices and spares stay consistent across the estate.

Common questions

Can you quote a full hotel UniFi kit?

Yes — per-property kit lists are the standard brief for this page.

Wi-Fi 6 UniFi still available to quote?

Yes — name the models; both generations are priced from the same brand range.

Can outdoor access points join the same order?

Yes — list them as their own lines with positions and mounting heights; they consolidate into the same shipment.

Should the switching layer be on the same inquiry?

Ideally yes: the PoE budget check needs it. If switching is sourced separately, name the switch models so the draw check still happens.
